Building the strategic communication capacity of community-based organizations

Despite gains in public health outcomes, communities of color continue to experience profound inequities. To address those disparities, we need approaches that leverage community wisdom and shared experience; members of the communities that are most affected by inequities must be front and center in finding and implementing the solutions.

One of the most powerful of these approaches is community organizing. Through this project, BMSG is helping community organizers with the national Communities Creating Healthy Environments (CCHE) initiative, led by the Praxis Project, to build their strategic communication capacity and use media advocacy to advance local policies that support equitable health outcomes, shift community norms, and engage community members and policymakers in lasting, transformational change.

BMSG also participates in the annual Roots and Remedies convening, an important opportunity for community organizers and community leaders from around the nation to meet, share knowledge, and collaborate to build power.
