All Children Thrive – Modesto Training
Date: January 27, 2023
The All Children Thrive (ACT) Initiative, is a statewide effort led by the UCLA Center for Healthier Children, the California Department of Public Health, and Public Health Advocates (PHA). The initiative aims to support cities around the state in pursuing local policies that can improve children’s well-being. This training was the first of a four-part series. Within this training, the BMSG staff worked with school-aged students to give an introduction to the media landscape and tips on how to be effective storytellers. Through creating value-based messaging and simulated mock interviews the students got the opportunity to tap into their overall strategy and give strategic messages that included not only the problem but the solution. The students practiced communicating succinctly and persuasively to prepare for the moment when they would have the opportunity to speak with leaders and strategic allies about the policy goals they are pursuing to make their cities healthier and safer.
