ETR: Media advocacy training to support influencers in advancing health outcomes for African Americans
Date: Feburary 15, 2023
ETR (Education, Training and Research) is a national non-profit that is passionate about improving health and increasing opportunities for youth, families, and communities. By addressing, the ways health and education outcomes are influenced by the complex interactions between people and their environment their hope is to promote equity and justice.
This training was designed and led by trainers Shaddai Martinez Cuestas and Rosaura Wardsworth. Martinez and Wardsworth worked with Historically Black College and University (HBCU) students participating in the Black Public Health Influencer Design Fellowship sponsored by ETR.
The training centered around access to sexual health information and resources for the Black community through social media. Within a two-part series cohort members learned to solidify their overall strategy, craft values-based strategic messages, and deliver those messages in high-pressure settings such as going live on social media platforms, meetings with influencer, or decision makers.
Trusted messengers are a key component in any message strategy. Who delivers the information can have a direct impact on who receives it and how it’s received. This ETR cohort left with tools to not only become more effective messengers for their community but for all communities.
