frank2020 talk: What happens when we’re not afraid to talk about sexual violence?

Date: Feburary 06, 2020

How can advocates striving to prevent sexual violence get better at communicating about their work? What does that look like in practice? What is holding us back? Those are some of the questions that BMSG Head of Research Pamela Mejia addressed during her talk at the frank2020 gathering in Gainesville, Florida. One key to improving messages about sexual violence prevention, she explained, is to start by acknowledging our fears and other difficult emotions regarding this issue. Doing so can make messengers more credible and relatable, help audiences feel validated, and allow people to envision and discuss solutions more easily.
