Staying on message during a media interview
Date: September 10, 2020
To be effective messengers, advocates need to be prepared to talk confidently with reporters, frame the issue to connect to their policy goal, and stay on message even when answering hard questions. In this workshop for the Bay Area Regional Health Inequities Initiative, BMSG discussed media interviews as a component of an overall media advocacy strategy. Our trainers also provided tools to prepare for a media interview, including an overview of what reporters are looking for when working on a story, and led the group through a series of hands-on exercises to practice interviewing skills.
